Walking to work

So this morning I took the car down to the garage again and asked for a new battery (on the advice of the AA man who rescued me last night). They said they've had one in by lunch time and fit it this afternoon. Which they did. But that left me with no car to get to work.

  • Option 1: work from home? Nope... too much office based stuff to do prior to tomorrows training day
  • Option 2: Bus? It's 2 if not 3 buses from my house to work, and I'm not sure of the numbers or time. I'll be super late....
  • Option 3: Taxi? Too expensive. I could ask my taxi driver friend, but she would likely be busy and not be able to get to me within the hour coz it's a busy time and short notice.
  • Option 4: Lift from colleague? They are already in the office (I start later) and we have way too much to do to have 2 people out because one is fetching me.

Which left... WALKING!

Okay..... I've wanted an excuse to walk to work for ages. It's over an hour according to Google (17 min in a car, 20 on a bike, 1 hour 16 mins on foot). I figured I'd only be 45 mins late if I set off straight from the school run. I'd easily be just as late on the buses, waiting for a lift, or waiting for a taxi. So off I went.

And I only bloody did it! 3.8 miles in a frock (and converse style shoes, not my Iron Fists), listening to my iPod and enjoying the sunshine. And I made it in the time Google said so I was only 45 mins late for work. I got a lift home though....!

I'm thinking that I need to dust off MY bike now... 20 mins on a bike?! That would be a better option next time my car needs to go to the garage!

Facebook has changed it’s policy for posts to Facebook pages like mine. They are only showing posts to a few likers unless I pay to boost the views. Since I don't earn money from my blog (or at least not much, not even enough to buy one posh a coffee a week) I wont be doing that. The best way to make sure you will see my blog posts is to subscribe by email up there on the right. I usually only email once a week and include an invitation to my blog hop so you can share your posts too.

You can also go to my page, hover over the “liked” button and select get notifications. Then you will see my posts and status updates in your notifications. Mumma Walker on Facebook

Recipe: Pigsty Pie

This is one that we made up, although we are far from the first or only people to make a pie using pork or pork mince and call it a Pigsty Pie. So let's just say that this is our version of it. It smells great and reminds me of stuffing at Christmas, making it feel much more "naughty" than it is! This serves four people and it a nice 9 points per serving. You will need these for the mash: 400g potatoes 400g sweet potatoes 4-5 good sized carrots Salt Pepper Nutmeg Simply chop the roots, boil in salted water until tender, and mash! Add salt, pepper and nutmeg to taste. The pie filling: 10 sprays low fat cooking spray (e.g. 1 cal) 1/2 lb lean pork mince 2 onions, finely chopped 3 apples, diced 1 leek, chopped 5-6 big mushrooms 2 tbs plain flour 1 tsp sage 1 tsp parsley Salt Pepper 1 vegetable stock cube 1/2 hot water 2 tsp English mustard Fry the onions in the cooking spray until they start to soften, add the mince. Once the meat starts to colour add the apple, leek and mush
