Back to the DIY & Nesting!

Things are starting to move again at long last! There's been a long break as Mark had some work (cheers Rob) for a couple of weeks, then we went to visit family, and then the tax credits people screwed up our money (still waiting for that to get sorted! Grr!). So we've had to wait until I got paid and then work out just how much we were able to spend...

Today the stuff should be arriving for the loft! Apart from some fittings for the brackets which we'll need to pop into B&Q for. We've had to order stuff in for the loft instead of just go out and buy it because it was simply too big to fit in the car. That also means it's cost an extra £40 to have it delivered! A flaming cheek if you ask me!

There wont be anything happening today though because I have my second growth scan this afternoon so mum will be over, and then Mark will be looking after Jack while I go for my scan. Plan is though that tomorrow morning we'll go to B&Q so he can get the bits he needs, and then I take Jack out for a while and let Mark crack on. He'll only be able to do stuff in the mornings because Jack still likes an afternoon nap so Daddy can't be banging and drilling away in the loft right over Jack's bedroom.

He thinks it should be done by the end of the weekend, which would be BRILLIANT! That means we can get all the stuff that is currently clogging up the nursery and our bedroom up and out of the way. Then I can put up the crib & moses basket and buy the new mattresses!

Once all that's done I can start to relax again. At the moment I am wound up tighter than a coiled spring. I hate falling over stuff at the best of times, but now I can hardly move as it is so having boxes and crates all over the house is not improving my mood. Not having 100% of everything ready for the baby is causing me stress too (and yes I know I still have over 6 weeks to my due date, but this is how I am). I'm feeling the need to nest and at the moment I can't. I want to open up the vac-bag of cloth nappies and get them all washed and laid out in the nursery drawers ready. I want to do the same with the 0-3 month baby clothes, the bedding for the basket & crib, swaddling robes, bath towels etc. I want to be able to sit on my nursing chair in that nursery and say to myself "Yes, we're ready now". Doing this stuff will relax me. Not being able to do it with time ticking by causes me stress.

Mostly I'm just looking forward to having a relatively tidy house!

If modern crib sets is not what you were exactly thinking of there are several not so modern styles to choose from. Maybe you are looking to have your baby’s nursery decorated in a specific theme.

Wedding List.... (OMG)

A new kitchen.... Really! We need one! So I've been saying to people that we'll want either B&Q or Ikea vouchers... Only I can't say which yet because I haven't choosen which one I like best: B&Q Oak Shaker style: ( on froogle ) ( on their site ) Ikea: Tildaholm BECAUSE... our kitchen is REALLY badly laid out, the storage is dropping to bits, the seal round the sink is black and festering, the oven hasn't worked for YEARS (the hob and grill are ok though), the seal on one of thef ridge doors has gone too, and the floor... half tiled, half bare concret! But now I have to choose which one I like best, and get the measurements sorted out, and then get the prices for what I can have in the space we've got... PHEW!

Recipe Review: Hairy Bikers liver & bacon with onions & gravy

I need a bit of comfort food at this time of year. I really love this recipe from The Hairy Bikers:  Liver and bacon with onions and gravy  and freely admit that I have whipped this from the BBC Food website. I follow the recipe (but sometimes chuck some mushrooms in too) and split it four ways at 11 pro points per serving. It's a classic, and even my 6 year old likes liver cooked like this - the 4 & 2 year olds need a little extra ketchup to convince them. The Hairy Bikers’ traditional liver and bacon makes a simple supper packed full of flavour and bursting with vitamins and minerals Ingredients 450g/1lb lambs’  liver , sliced and fully thawed if frozen 25g/1oz  butter 2 tbsp  sunflower oil 4 tbsp  plain flour 1  onion , halved lengthways and sliced 125g/4½oz rindless streaky  bacon  rashers, each cut into 4–5 pieces 1  beef stock  cube 500ml/18fl oz  jus t-boiled water 1–2 tsp tomato  ketchup salt and freshly ground  black pepper Preparation method Rinse the liver in a cola
