Weclome to Baby Ben! 28/10/10

I got a call on the 27th, about 9.45pm. No one ever calls us that late so me and Mark glanced at each other, holding our breaths for a moment "Ooooh!" we both said. I was closest to the phone and dived on it.

2 babies were due - my step brother & wifes, and my brother in laws & gfs. So it could be my mum to say Antoni and Hadil had had their baby, or it could be Bob or Rach to say Bean was on the way.

It was Rach! She asked me if what she's just experienced had been her "show" and explained what had happened. I said it sounded like it.... her voice was trembling and we chatted for a short while while she caught her breath. She wasn't having any noticeable contractions, and it wasn't a bloody show so we guessed there was plenty of time to go. She went to try to get some sleep.

I spoke to her again around 1pm the next day. The rest of her plug had come away while she was out with her mum, and she had started contractions. They were about 20-25 mins apart at this stage, and she already had an apt with her midwife at 2.30.

At 3pm she text me to say she's had a sweep and was 3cm dilated, contractions were now 10-15 mins apart!

At 5pm she texted again to say she and Bob were on the way to the hospital, contractions now 5 mins apart!

We heard nothing else until after 10pm. Bob called. His voice very quiet and shaky. He said "Thought you might like to know.... it's a boy!" I almost burst into tears on the spot, and gave the phone to Mark so the brothers could speak and share a moment.

I would love to tell you all about the birth and everything else, but it's not my story to share. Instead I'll wait until she's posted her birth story and copy up here for you. No one will be able to tell it as well as mummy herself anyway!

So welcome to the world, little Benjamin! All 8lb 4oz of you! I can't wait to meet you and introduce you to your cousins Jack & Tom!

Oh, and Auntie Jenny.... It's your turn next! How about this little girl we're all waiting for!? Rachel & Garry have 3 boys. Me and Mark have 2 boys. Bob & Rach have 1 boy.... I love them all, but we need 1 for team pink!

Wedding List.... (OMG)

A new kitchen.... Really! We need one! So I've been saying to people that we'll want either B&Q or Ikea vouchers... Only I can't say which yet because I haven't choosen which one I like best: B&Q Oak Shaker style: ( on froogle ) ( on their site ) Ikea: Tildaholm BECAUSE... our kitchen is REALLY badly laid out, the storage is dropping to bits, the seal round the sink is black and festering, the oven hasn't worked for YEARS (the hob and grill are ok though), the seal on one of thef ridge doors has gone too, and the floor... half tiled, half bare concret! But now I have to choose which one I like best, and get the measurements sorted out, and then get the prices for what I can have in the space we've got... PHEW!

Recipe Review: Hairy Bikers liver & bacon with onions & gravy

I need a bit of comfort food at this time of year. I really love this recipe from The Hairy Bikers:  Liver and bacon with onions and gravy  and freely admit that I have whipped this from the BBC Food website. I follow the recipe (but sometimes chuck some mushrooms in too) and split it four ways at 11 pro points per serving. It's a classic, and even my 6 year old likes liver cooked like this - the 4 & 2 year olds need a little extra ketchup to convince them. The Hairy Bikers’ traditional liver and bacon makes a simple supper packed full of flavour and bursting with vitamins and minerals Ingredients 450g/1lb lambs’  liver , sliced and fully thawed if frozen 25g/1oz  butter 2 tbsp  sunflower oil 4 tbsp  plain flour 1  onion , halved lengthways and sliced 125g/4½oz rindless streaky  bacon  rashers, each cut into 4–5 pieces 1  beef stock  cube 500ml/18fl oz  jus t-boiled water 1–2 tsp tomato  ketchup salt and freshly ground  black pepper Preparation method Rinse the liver in a cola
