Beavers - Pre Gala Swim Trip

The Scouts have a swimming gala coming up next month so tonight the Beavers had their meeting at the University pool so determine who would be selected to represent our group this year. It got off to a bit of a slow start as one of the leaders was stuck in traffic and not enough parents volunteered to get into the water and help out. Myself included, although I had Freddie with me so wouldn't have been able to join in anyway. It will be different next year when I can leave him with Daddy and jump in.

Obviously since Jack only started swimming lessons last weekend he isn't up for selection for the gala, but he had fun messing about it the water. The more experienced swimmers had a chance to get their staged swimmers badge though and it was great to see the leaders in the water with the kids helping them along and having fun with them. I'm hoping that next year Jack will be one of those getting their stage 1 badge, maybe sooner if he does well with this swimming lessons and we can show that he has achieved all he needs to be awarded.

And the bonus for me was a nice chance to have a natter catch up with some of the other mums, and get to check out the Uni's sports centre that I've never been to before. Very nice, new and shiny! I'm liking this whole "Being a mum to a Beaver" thing!

Facebook has changed it’s policy for posts to Facebook pages like mine. They are only showing posts to a few likers unless I pay to boost the views. Since I don't earn money from my blog (or at least not much, not even enough to buy one posh a coffee a week) I wont be doing that. The best way to make sure you will see my blog posts is to subscribe by email up there on the right. I usually only email once a week and include an invitation to my blog hop so you can share your posts too.

You can also go to my page, hover over the “liked” button and select get notifications. Then you will see my posts and status updates in your notifications. Mumma Walker on Facebook

Recipe: Pigsty Pie

This is one that we made up, although we are far from the first or only people to make a pie using pork or pork mince and call it a Pigsty Pie. So let's just say that this is our version of it. It smells great and reminds me of stuffing at Christmas, making it feel much more "naughty" than it is! This serves four people and it a nice 9 points per serving. You will need these for the mash: 400g potatoes 400g sweet potatoes 4-5 good sized carrots Salt Pepper Nutmeg Simply chop the roots, boil in salted water until tender, and mash! Add salt, pepper and nutmeg to taste. The pie filling: 10 sprays low fat cooking spray (e.g. 1 cal) 1/2 lb lean pork mince 2 onions, finely chopped 3 apples, diced 1 leek, chopped 5-6 big mushrooms 2 tbs plain flour 1 tsp sage 1 tsp parsley Salt Pepper 1 vegetable stock cube 1/2 hot water 2 tsp English mustard Fry the onions in the cooking spray until they start to soften, add the mince. Once the meat starts to colour add the apple, leek and mush
