Scout Hut Fun

I'm spending more time at the Scout Hut than the kids at the moment. Last night I was there helping to clear out some of the rubble and dust while the whole of the inside gets ripped out ready for the renovations - which start in a few weeks. Loads of fun watching folk pull down plaster board, wrenching away at wooden and metal frames (certain areas of H&S I'm pretending I didn't witness) and I'm really glad I went to help out even if I mostly just swept up and moved wood and metal into stacks ready for the skips. Tonight I went to help unload and sort the plants for the plant sale, only for the last hour but it's all I could manage after taking Jack swimming.

In fact it's all scouting all the time in our house right now. I've spent that last two days sorting, washing, and packing for Jack and Tom's camp, and most of today has been spent baking. I've made Rocky Road, and chocolate cupcakes with Spiderman themed sprinkles for them to take with them.

Also... I haven't eaten any! I had one lick of the spoon when I'd done melting the chocolate for the rocky road, but I ran my recipes through Weight Watchers and frankly it's not worth a whole days points for one piece of rocky and one cake! (Kind of helps to explain where all my weight came back from on my diet break! Made at least two batches of rocky road in that time).

Tomorrow Jack is being collected by one of the Cub leaders, who only lives round the corner from us, and is going to the Hut to help sell some plants. Nice and early! Like, before 8:30! Meanwhile, I'll be taking Tom and George swimming. Then it's drop Georgie back home with Nana and Fred while Tom and I join Jack at the hut. We'll help where we can, then I'll be loading the car up with my two big lads and 3 other Beavers ready to head off to camp! Apparently I'm dropping them off and going - quick turn around because there are a LOT of Beavers at County Camp and not much room for cars or long good byes.

This is Tom's first camp. When it was Jack's first camp I was nervous as hell before he went but I'm a bit more chilled for Tom. Mainly because Jack will be on the same camp, although not the same tent. Having said that.... It will be odd not saying night night to either my Big Lad or my Blondie tomorrow night. I might be chilled now... Tomorrow may be another matter! When I have left TWO of my kids at the side of the road in the middle of no where and driven off! At least I'll have left them with three other kids too this time!

Facebook has changed it’s policy for posts to Facebook pages like mine. They are only showing posts to a few likers unless I pay to boost the views. Since I don't earn money from my blog (or at least not much, not even enough to buy one posh a coffee a week) I wont be doing that. The best way to make sure you will see my blog posts is to subscribe by email up there on the right. I usually only email once a week and include an invitation to my blog hop so you can share your posts too.

You can also go to my page, hover over the “liked” button and select get notifications. Then you will see my posts and status updates in your notifications. Mumma Walker on Facebook

Recipe: Pigsty Pie

This is one that we made up, although we are far from the first or only people to make a pie using pork or pork mince and call it a Pigsty Pie. So let's just say that this is our version of it. It smells great and reminds me of stuffing at Christmas, making it feel much more "naughty" than it is! This serves four people and it a nice 9 points per serving. You will need these for the mash: 400g potatoes 400g sweet potatoes 4-5 good sized carrots Salt Pepper Nutmeg Simply chop the roots, boil in salted water until tender, and mash! Add salt, pepper and nutmeg to taste. The pie filling: 10 sprays low fat cooking spray (e.g. 1 cal) 1/2 lb lean pork mince 2 onions, finely chopped 3 apples, diced 1 leek, chopped 5-6 big mushrooms 2 tbs plain flour 1 tsp sage 1 tsp parsley Salt Pepper 1 vegetable stock cube 1/2 hot water 2 tsp English mustard Fry the onions in the cooking spray until they start to soften, add the mince. Once the meat starts to colour add the apple, leek and mush
